The early part of any year usually comprises of failed diets, broken promises and empty pockets. It also benefits from discovering music from the previous year that had completely slipped you by. My favourite discovery so far has be Daughn Gibson's country/beats album entitled 'All Hell'. 'Ray', like much of the album is steeped in dark overtones; however the smooth beats and his deep baritone settles you in to a lovely and relaxing listen.

Excellent rework of a Donald Byrd classic. I learn much from my selector hero, Gilles Peterson, you should too.

One for the heads. Hearing it on Ron Morelli's (L.I.E.S.) excellent Test Pressing mix and once again on Balearic Social this week reminded me once again just how good Talking Heads were. Time to watch 'Stop Makin' Sense' again. Top stuff.

I toyed with the idea of sacking off this blog about a month ago. A lack of internet and a focus on home life and a transition to a new area left with me with much more to do than wailing away the hours making visitors to this blog enjoy excellent music. However a new Low album is on the horizon. That is more than enough to change my mind. There's snippets off the new album 'The Invisible Way' all over the internet, but officially the band and the label Sub Pop have decided to present 'Just Make it Stop' as an album preview. It's every bit as beautiful and majestic as what they've done before. Album drops in March, and a UK tour takes place in April. Get tickets here.
